Instructor insight

The 182 is the natural step-up from the C172 for pilots wanting more performance. The constant-speed propeller requires additional skills and the higher power demands respect. Excellent for teaching energy management and transition to more complex aircraft. The payload capacity allows realistic touring with passengers and baggage.

Student experience

Significantly higher operating costs than C172. The constant-speed prop and higher approach speeds require adjustment. Heavier controls can tire students during extended training sessions. Insurance requirements are stricter.
